String quartet for two violins, viola and cello.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: twenty-three minutes.
Set includes a score and four parts.
Although the majority of Carreño’s compositions are for the piano, this impressive four-movement string quartet, in a late Romantic style, was composed in 1896 while she was on tour in Europe. The work was premiered in the Leipzig Gewandhaus on December 18, 1897 by violinists Hilf and Becker, violist Schafer and cellist Klengel. (This information kindly provided by Carreño scholar, Laura Pita).
Don’t settle for less!
European editions may take weeks to arrive - our edition ships immediately. Online versions may be easily downloadable, but are just photocopies of the original 1896 Leipzig edition, with all of its flaws and non-existent page turns. (Well, if you call “page turns” having to shuffle a bunch of loose sheets of paper). Not only that, they don’t even include a full score. Our completely re-typeset edition consists of a beautifully bound full score and parts that was prepared in collaboration with Carreño scholars. And, there are rehearsal letters.
Carreño, String Quartet in B minor, 1st movement.
