Wind quintet for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon.
Grade 4. Approx. duration: nineteen minutes.
Set includes a score and five parts.
Approximately nineteen minutes long, Beltrami composed this five-movement work for wind quintet for his bassoonist friend, Francisco Formiga. The march-like first movement features the clarinet in a middle section that leads back to the march. The bassoon opens a recitative-like second movement in which the other instruments provide colorful interventions. The third movement is intended as a tribute to Heitor Villa-Lobos, and makes use of the "Modinha" style. The fourth movement, which is a comical and reckless scherzo, is followed by a Bach-like final movement that uses irregular phrases. However, the reinsertion of the march leads ultimately to a final presto that alternates between a binary rondo and waltz.
